Who We Are

The Rock Art Network (RAN) is a collaboration of people from around the world committed to building awareness of rock art as a threatened and irreplaceable human heritage which needs protection. Our members use their links to people and places to improve recognition for rock art and methods for its protection, conservation and management.

The strength of the Network is its diversity: cultural, geographic and professional. RAN comprises up to 40 individual members who volunteer their time and expertise from a range of backgrounds, including from Indigenous, local and caretaker communities, conservation and management specialists, as well as people with experience communicating the significance of rock art to wider audiences. Network membership currently represents eighteen countries on six continents broadly reflecting rock art’s global distribution.

Many are dedicated to research, teaching and outreach but there are also site managers, curators, conservators, filmmakers, photographers, artists, web developers, and leaders in the non-profit sector. This spectrum of skills and experience provides a unique opportunity for inter-disciplinary engagement and collaboration.
